POSITION OVERVIEW:The Distributed Generation Demand Response Lead involves developing and executing strategies to deploy distributed energy resources (DER), such as onsite natural gas generation and energy storage systems.
Key responsibilities include leading cross-functional projects, managing deliverables, and collaborating with tenants and electric utility partners to implement demand-side management strategies and demand response programs.
The position will also involve creating backup micro-grid strategies to meet emissions and capacity requirements for campus projects, coordinating with utilities on load letters and ramp schedules, and ensuring accurate utility billing for multi-tenant and landlord-controlled sites.Additionally, this role supports retail energy contract structuring, maintains a database of utility rates, and builds strategic industry relationships.
Staying informed on industry trends, policy changes, and technology developments is essential to guiding strategic decisions and supporting ongoing energy initiatives.Responsibilities will include analysis and project delivery, supplier relationship management and thought-leadership.RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and implement strategies to deploy distributed energy projects including onsite natural gas generation and/or energy storage systems.
Lead cross-functional work effort, including outlining and drafting deliverables, defining analyses, directing internal resources and external consultants and taking responsibility for final work product.
Understand and collaborate with tenants and electric utility partners to advocate and implement demand-side management strategies, including participation in demand response programs.
Support the development of any backup micro-grid strategies necessary to meet emissions requirements or required to obtain electric utility power capacity to successfully develop campus projects.
Support strategic relationships and collaborate on campus and building project-level connections within relevant electric utilities Support development teams in submission of load letters, ramp schedules, and other utility process documentation to assess and secure power for current and future campuses.
Support finance and account management teams in ensuring accurate, timely billing of electric utilities in both multi-tenant sites and landlord-controlled utility accounts.
Support selection and oversight of utility billing management system.
Develop working knowledge and maintain database of utility and tariffed rates for active campuses and developments under consideration.
Assist in structure of retail energy contracts for SDC-managed energy accounts in competitive energy markets Develop and grow new relationships with peer organization energy managers and industry contacts.
Stay informed of industry trends, policy changes and technology advancements to inform strategy development and decision making MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, business, policy or related field.
Master’s degree preferred Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional teams and including internal resources and consultants Demonstrated experience in delivering distributed energy solutions to utilities, services firms, DER technology firms, public entities (including military applications) or data centers.
Demonstrated understanding of current power market issues including: utility economics, distribution-transmission infrastructure; DER integration and valuation; alternative regulatory policies, and integrated grid technologies.
7+ years of experience working in DER related power industry roles, including DER engineering-economic analysis, DER program development, strategic planning, distribution system engineering, technology development and regulatory case management.
Experience analyzing and optimizing operational considerations around both natural gas and electric utility rates and tariffs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
Unquestionable business ethics, including the protection of proprietary and confidential information.
Ability to work with all levels of internal staff, as well as outside clients and vendors.
